Inspired by FitSugar's stinky salad experiance...
my friends always make fun of me for sending food back at restaurants... but i don't feel that i should be forced to eat things that just aren't up to par.. especially at expensive places!
crisp, why are you too shy? are you afraid to offend the waiters?
Yeah I just dont want to make a fuss. But you are right. Its your money you are spending on the food. You deserve to get what you expected (and what you pay for).
crisp - i'm the only one out of my friends who does this though... haha
I should try it once! Im sure its worth feeling mean, if not for a second or two. Thats another fear, I dont want to be seen as mean. But what the heck, I want good food!
Depending on whether or not I can actually eat it, I send it back. I've gotten better at it too, since I too am like crispy, being shy. If it's meat not cooked the way I want, or seafood, I have no problems sending it back. I just don't wanna get sick.
I haven't ever.. I always feel bad, like maybe I wasn't clear enough.. so the employees are shuffling to fix my mistake. I don't know..
I think I would definitely ask them to take something completely different than what I ordered back.. like if I ordered chicken and they brought steak.. that I would definitely have to sent back.
I have not but my friend did because he did not get what he ordered, and they didn't even apologied!
Well, I have a lot of food allergies, so I have to do this with some regularity, despite the fact that the issues have been discussed. I'm not sure if the communication breakdown is with the waiters or the cooks, but either way, I'm not going to end up in the emergency room because someone didn't pay attention.
one time i ordered pizza at a really nice place and when they brought it out, it was SOOOO salty... i mean, it was rediculuos and i generally love salt... so i told them to take it back... my friends said i was being a brat, but i really don't think so...
Marci - my bf is allergic to nuts and we ALWAYS warn the waiters and yet somehow, we still have to send the food back half the time! bah!
If there is something wrong then yes I send it back. I don't buy broken stuff from the store so why would the rules be different with food?
If it isn't done they way I asked, or the way it is described on the menu I always send it back. I do it nicely, but I always do it.
I have once. It was absolutely covered in cilantro and green onion (one I hate, one makes me sick in large amounts), and it didn't say anything about either on the menu or I would've ordered it without. So I told them I was allergic to cilantro, which might be true.
never, for 2 reasons. one, i don't think i ever went to a meal with my mother where she didn't send it back and it always bugged the sh*t out of me (come on, it's never right?) and 2 i'm
actually afraid of what they might do to my food
i'll just not eat it or order something else.
Valeri I agree with you!Iam worried theywill spit in my food or worse!I have heard and read many horror stories about reaturants doing horrible things to food so Im like never mine I will say nothing.
sure if it's not what I ordered or how I ordered it. Politely but firmly, it's my money anyways.

I will send something back if it's truly inedible. But I'm always very VERY nice about it. And you're right about what food service workers will do to your food if you are rude. Everything bad you are thinking is true.
tuai worked in restaurants all through college and i never saw people actually do something to do the food... people talked about it, sure, but never actually went through with it....
i only send it if its not what i ordered but if the forgot something i dont mind really the waiters/ress are human and maybe they are new maybe having a bad day, u never know what kind of boss they have
I've worked in restaurants and no one has every done something to food because it's sent back. I've never had a problem with someone returning their food if there was a problem, and most people are polite.
One thing I always want to do but I'm not sure if it is appropriate is to return old fries at fast food restaurants. If I'm going to splurge and actually eat fast food, I want it to be good. One girl I know would always ask for new fries if hers were a bit cold/soggy/not fresh. Technically, there is nothing really wrong with them though, so I never know if she was being overly demanding or if that is appropriate to do. What do you think?
I wont send my own food back I'll just push it around the plate until everyone is finished and then go home hungry, or just order a great dessert. I have sent friends food back because they're not happy with it, I don't know why I can't do it for myself. Probably because I believe if I order it I'm stuck with it I should have know better, I guess I hold myself to different standards than those I expect from others.
All i have to say is watch the movie, WAITING. LOL it will make you think twice.

that being said, i'm always polite about it and tip VERY WELL!
